Prudence’s view…
We have known each other since 2006. Uncle Joey (as I used to call him) and his late wife used to give us a ride to church. Around August 2012 I bought my own car & our paths separated, although we maintained a friendly acquaintance. On the morning of the 6th of March 2022 after mass “Uncle Joey” approached me. I first thought he wanted to ask me something church related, but to my surprise & also a measure of shock, he revealed his intention. Thanks to the mask he wasn’t able to read my expression.
We only spoke briefly and I agreed that I would consider his request and have an answer ready on the 11th of April…
Joey’s view…
We met up on a Sunday during our Lent, (Catholic season: 40 days of fasting, prayer & abstinence) I asked Prudence to please pray for the 40 days because I would like for her to be my soul mate, and I told her that I love her. I asked her to give me her answer on Easter Monday… She did not know that I was already ready to marry her. On Easter Monday, I prepared a special dinner, and she said yes. Prudence makes me very happy, and I just want to spend the rest of my life with her.
Where God guides, He Provides Amen.
The Proposal…
A week or so before the 2022 Comrades Marathon, Joseph invited Prudence to join him on the trip to Durban, for what we now know was to be one of most romantic proposals ever. On the 28th of August 2023, as Joseph was completing the 90km Comrades Marathon, he pulled out a sign as onlookers watched. The sign read: “Prudence, will you marry me? Run 90kms for you.” Prudence was waiting at the finish line, and moments after he crossed the finish line, she said “Yes” and rest, as they say, is history.
